Unrut ("we," "us," "the app") is operated by Nicholas Balestra ("we"). This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it.
We built Unrut to help with getting started on things. We collect the minimum needed to make that work. We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and we do not use your content to train AI models.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password. Passwords are hashed and stored by our authentication provider; we never see or store your password in readable form. You may optionally provide a display name.
Content you create in the app. This includes: - Anchor titles (the tasks you set for yourself) - Scheduled times and mode selections - Completion statuses and missed-anchor reasons - Daily reflection entries ("what went well," "what got in the way") - Records of when you use the "I'm Stuck" feature, including which type of stuck you selected - Which nudges you marked as helpful
Text you submit to the AI nudge feature. If you use "Talk through what's blocking you," the text you type is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a response. See Section 3 for details.
Notification preferences. Your settings for morning, anchor, and evening reminders.
Information collected automatically
Subscription status. Whether you are on a free plan, a trial, or a paid subscription, and when your trial began.
Basic technical information. Our service providers may log standard technical data such as IP address, device type, and timestamps as part of normal operation and security.
Information we do not collect
We do not collect your contacts, location, photos, calendar, health data, or advertising identifiers. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
2. How we use your information
We use your information to: - Provide the app's core features — saving your anchors, showing your history, calculating streaks - Authenticate you and keep your account secure - Send the notifications you have opted into - Generate AI nudges when you request them - Determine whether you have access to free or Pro features - Respond to support requests - Diagnose bugs and maintain the service
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling for third parties, or automated decisions with legal effects.
3. Third-party services
Unrut relies on a small number of service providers. Each receives only what it needs to do its job.
Supabase — hosts our database, authentication, and server functions. Your account and all content you create in the app are stored here. Data is stored on servers located in US East (N. Virginia), United States.
Anthropic (Claude API) — powers the AI nudge feature. When you use "Talk through what's blocking you," the text you enter is sent to Anthropic to generate a response. We send only the text of that specific request; we do not send your name, email, history, or other content. Anthropic does not use data submitted through its API to train its models. If you never use this feature, no data is ever sent to Anthropic.
RevenueCat, Apple, and Google — process subscription payments and manage entitlements. We never receive or store your payment card details. Payment processing is handled entirely by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies.
Expo — used for app delivery and push notification services.
We do not sell your personal information to anyone, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
4. Content safety in the AI feature
Before any text is sent to Anthropic, Unrut screens it locally. If your message appears to describe a crisis or a personal, emotional, or medical situation rather than a task, we do not send it to the AI. Instead we show you a message directing you to appropriate support. This screening is automated and imperfect; it is a safety measure, not a substitute for professional help.
Unrut is not a medical device, a therapeutic tool, or a mental health service. It does not diagnose or treat any condition, including ADHD.
5. Data retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account exists.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your profile, anchors, check-ins, reflections, stuck logs, and all other content, along with your authentication record. This action cannot be undone and we cannot recover deleted data.
Backups maintained by our hosting provider may persist for a limited period after deletion before being overwritten in the normal course of operation.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing.
You can exercise most of these directly in the app: your content is visible to you, editable by you, and deletable by you. For anything else, email privacy@unrut.app and we will respond within 30 days.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our legal basis for processing is the performance of our contract with you (providing the app) and, for optional features like notifications and AI nudges, your consent.
If you are in California, we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA, and we do not discriminate against users who exercise their privacy rights.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, hashed passwords, and access controls limiting who can reach production data. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Age requirement
Unrut is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact privacy@unrut.app and we will delete it.
9. International users
Unrut is operated from the United States. If you use the app from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email before the changes take effect. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version.
