These Terms govern your use of Unrut, a mobile application operated by Nicholas Balestra ("we," "us"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Unrut.
1. What Unrut is — and is not
Unrut is a personal productivity tool designed to help you start tasks and structure unstructured time.
Unrut is not a medical device, healthcare service, therapy, or crisis service. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition, including ADHD or any other neurodevelopmental or mental health condition. Nothing in the app is medical, psychological, or professional advice.
If you are experiencing a mental health crisis or thoughts of harming yourself, contact a crisis line or emergency services. In the US, call or text 988.
2. Eligibility and your account
You must be at least 18 years old to use Unrut. This is because Unrut's AI nudge feature is built on a third-party AI service whose provider requires end users to be 18 or older.
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Provide accurate information when signing up, and let us know at support@unrut.app if you believe your account has been compromised.
You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account. Deletion is permanent and irreversible.
3. Free and Pro plans
Free. Access to daily check-ins, one anchor per time slot, the I'm Stuck flow, evening close-out, and today's data.
Trial. New accounts receive a 14-day trial with full Pro access. When the trial ends, your account converts to Free unless you subscribe. Your data is not deleted — history simply becomes inaccessible until you subscribe.
Pro. A paid subscription unlocking full history, unlimited anchors, streak features, breakdowns, and nudge cycling.
We may change what is included in each plan. If we materially reduce features in a plan you are actively paying for, we will notify you in advance.
4. Subscriptions, billing, and cancellation
Subscriptions are sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play and are governed by that platform's terms in addition to these.
- Payment is charged to your App Store or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase.
- Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of the current period.
- Managing your subscription. Cancel or change your subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies, not by us. We generally cannot issue refunds directly.
- Price changes will be communicated in advance and will not take effect until your next renewal period.
Current pricing is displayed in the app before you purchase.
5. Acceptable use
Do not: - Use Unrut for any unlawful purpose - Attempt to access other users' accounts or data - Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code - Interfere with or overload our systems, or attempt to bypass rate limits or access controls - Use automated means to access the service except as we expressly permit - Submit content that is unlawful or infringes someone else's rights
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
6. Your content
You own the content you create in Unrut — your anchors, reflections, and everything else you write.
You grant us a limited license to store, process, and display that content solely to operate the app for you. We do not use your content for marketing, do not share it with other users, and do not use it to train AI models.
7. The AI nudge feature
The "Talk through what's blocking you" feature uses a third-party AI service to generate task-focused suggestions.
- AI output may be inaccurate, generic, or unhelpful. Use your own judgment.
- The feature is strictly scoped to task activation. It is not therapy, coaching, medical advice, or crisis support.
- Text you submit is sent to a third-party provider as described in our Privacy Policy.
- We may limit usage of this feature to control costs or prevent abuse.
If a nudge ever produces something inappropriate, please report it to support@unrut.app.
8. Availability
We aim to keep Unrut running reliably but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. The service may be unavailable due to maintenance, outages at our providers, or factors outside our control. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time.
If we discontinue the service entirely, we will give reasonable advance notice and a way to export your data.
9. Disclaimers
Unrut is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the app will meet your requirements, be error-free, or produce any particular result. Use of Unrut will not necessarily improve your productivity, focus, or wellbeing.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of Unrut.
Our total liability for any claim relating to Unrut will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) fifty US dollars ($50).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims arising out of your misuse of Unrut or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be communicated in the app or by email before taking effect. Continuing to use Unrut after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
13. Termination
You may stop using Unrut and delete your account at any time.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the service. Sections covering content ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification survive termination.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Travis County, Texas, and you consent to that jurisdiction.
If you are a consumer in a jurisdiction with mandatory local protections, nothing here removes rights you cannot waive under that law.
15. Apple-specific terms
If you downloaded Unrut from the Apple App Store:
- These Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for Unrut.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price. Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim relating to the app, including product liability, legal or regulatory non-compliance, or consumer protection claims.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
